Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 6: Janil Puthucheary on resilience, security and future-readiness of Singapore’s digital infrastructure

12:51 Min

Singapore’s digital infrastructure underpins key functions that people and businesses rely on. Yet its growing scale and complexity give rise to more opportunities for cyberattacks and higher risks of disruptions - with a greater impact if they happen. Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Janil Puthucheary said this in parliament on Friday (Mar 7) and outlined measures to enhance the security, resilience and future-readiness of key digital infrastructure. He said the government is working towards introducing a new law this year - the Digital Infrastructure Act - to improve Singapore’s digital resilience and security. The law targets foundational digital infrastructure, starting with major cloud service providers and data centres. Meanwhile, government systems have become more resilient, with service availability rising from 95 per cent to 99.5 per cent in the last year, said Dr Janil. He also told the House how the public sector is embracing experimentation and innovation with artificial intelligence to better serve Singaporeans.
