Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 6: Sharael Taha on building AI and tech talent pipeline, empowering SMEs and supporting vernacular media

04:23 Min

As Singapore strives to develop a workforce with deep expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and other emerging technologies, it is equally important to uplift the broader workforce with foundational digital and AI skills, said MP Sharael Taha. Speaking in parliament on Friday (Mar 7), he asked how effective the TechSkills Accelerator has been in equipping the workforce with the deep tech skills needed for AI and cybersecurity roles. He also asked how Singapore can accelerate the development of AI literacy and digital skills across the broader workforce. Mr Sharael also wanted to know how the government is supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in leveraging AI to boost productivity, enhance decision-making and scale effectively. What is the progress of the National AI Strategy 2.0 in realising Singapore’s vision as a force for good? What safeguards are in place to prevent misuse by malicious actors and ensure the integrity of Singapore’s AI ecosystem? How can the government assist SMEs in upgrading their cybersecurity posture? Mr Sharael raised these questions in parliament and also highlighted the importance of supporting vernacular media in Singapore.
