Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 6: Xie Yao Quan on affordability of long-term healthcare

02:16 Min

Singapore’s long-term healthcare needs will grow sharply because of its ageing population, longer lifespans but not necessarily health spans, and changing family structures, said MP Xie Yao Quan. He said it is time for the government to set a clear policy goal for the affordability of long-term care, just like in other domains such as housing and retirement. In parliament on Friday (Mar 7), he suggested establishing a fee cap framework and asked how skills and quality will be assured as more providers enter the sector.
