Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 1: Indranee Rajah on ‘marriage and parenthood reset’

30:07 Min

Singapore needs a “marriage and parenthood reset” across society, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah. This means resetting how marriage and parenthood are viewed and supported, how workplaces can evolve to better align work and family and how everyone can play their part. To achieve this, the government will form a new workgroup with the relevant agencies to look into these issues holistically and engage widely across the public, business and the people sectors. Ms Indranee, who announced this in parliament on Thursday (Feb 26), will chair this workgroup. She also highlighted broadly the government’s four-pronged approach. Firstly, it will build on current efforts to enhance government support for marriage and parenthood. Secondly, it will cultivate positive mindsets about marriage and parenthood. Thirdly, it will work with employers to foster workplace cultures and practices that are family-friendly. Fourthly, it will engage the whole of society in this effort.
