Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on extraditions
In parliament on Friday (Feb 27), MP Sylvia Lim noted that ASEAN member states signed up to the ASEAN Treaty on Extradition in November last year. She also said that in recent years, Singapore has felt the limitations of existing extradition arrangements, highlighting the 2016 case of a Canadian who robbed a Standard Chartered Bank branch here and fled to Thailand. She noted that while it makes sense to have an extradition treaty, she posed two questions to the Ministry of Law, including whether Singapore has indicated its ratification for the treaty.
