Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on scams

03:08 Min

Many online scams targeting Singaporeans are perpetrated overseas and it is necessary for agencies across the region to work collaboratively to share information, conduct operations and extradite suspects where appropriate, said MP Sylvia Lim. Speaking in parliament on Friday (Feb 27), she asked for the government’s assessment of regional cooperation and whether there are particular obstacles on this front. She also asked for updates on an initiative among several jurisdictions to strengthen real-time intelligence sharing, improve asset recovery and coordinate joint operations. Turning to the domestic scam situation, Ms Lim asked for the government’s assessment of its effectiveness in preventing scams.
