Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Fadli Fawzi on AI and media literacy and declassification and national history

04:47 Min

Singapore needs a population that is equipped to question, verify and critically assess what it sees online, said MP Fadli Fawzi. Speaking in parliament on Monday (Mar 2), he wanted to know what structured and long-term programmes the government will develop to strengthen media literacy and critical thinking. Turning to the recent declassification of the Albatross File, he said it illustrates why a “freedom of information act” and automatic declassification are necessary. A mature nation does not fear its own archives and if Singapore truly believes in accountable governance and informed citizenry, then it is time to enshrine the public's right to know in law, he said.
