Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Lee Hong Chuang on supporting SMEs

05:53 Min

About 70 per cent of Singapore's workforce, or approximately 2.5 million people, are employed in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This is not a small number. When SMEs do well, Singaporeans do well. MP Lee Hong Chuang made these observations in parliament on Monday (Mar 2). He proposed that the government make access to support for SMEs “more proactive and intelligent”, and added that as the region accelerates transformation, Singapore must ensure that its SMEs "are active participants and not bystanders".
