Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 4: Jamus Lim on on-the-job training in age of AI
In parliament on Tuesday (Mar 3), MP Jamus Lim proposed institutionalising a national on-the-job training system for apprenticeships, internships and mentorships. He said there is substantive evidence that internships and apprenticeships contribute to enhanced knowledge transfer and more efficient production, and can help reduce labour market polarisation. To encourage employer buy-in, he suggested that workers be allowed to apply their SkillsFuture Credit to paid internship programmes and that durations be short-term, for six months to a year.
