In parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4), MP Hamid Razak highlighted the example of a Singaporean in her 20s who was diagnosed with hereditary breast cancer. He noted that parts of her reconstruction surgery was not covered because it was deemed to be cosmetic. He posed three broad questions to the Health Minister, including whether it will review how it finances medically indicated preventive procedures and reconstruction. He also wanted to know if HealthierSG can progressively add functional health markers, including metabolic, cognitive and frailty indicators, so that prevention becomes personalised and not just generic.
