Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 5: Jamus Lim on ‘lumpy’ medical spending and MediSave limits
Healthcare expenditure tends to be “lumpy” – spiking when people fall seriously ill, as well as towards the end of life. The current MediSave policy of annual withdrawal limits does not align with this, said MP Jamus Lim in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4). He suggested two ways to better calibrate MediSave limits. First, permit carrying over of unspent limits for up to three years and second, have a tiered system of claim limits, with amounts gradually raised according to age.
