Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 5: Murali Pillai on how maritime Singapore can ride waves of change

16:31 Min

The sea has always been Singapore’s open passage to the world, on which it built its prosperity – and it can continue to ride the waves of change even in choppy waters, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai. He outlined four key thrusts for the maritime sector - maintaining strong partners across the globe, strengthening the country’s position as a trusted node, building up its talent and harnessing the power of technology. Mr Murali said the Maritime Digital Twin, a virtual model of Singapore’s port, will be extended to industry partners to test better products and services for port users. Two use cases will be piloted this year, to optimise ship supply services and improve response and preparedness for emergencies like oil spills. In parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4), Mr Murali also announced a new fund supporting global rotations for Singaporean managers to prepare them for leadership roles in the sector.
