Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 5: Terence Ho on community caregiving for seniors
While Singapore has prepared for an ageing population for many years, it needs to accelerate its efforts across infrastructure, systems and people, said NMP Terence Ho in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4). He proposed a large-scale training of caregivers ahead of time, with those trained to a certain proficiency forming a community caregiving core. He also suggested scaling up training of domestic helpers ahead of demand, which would expand caregiving capacity across households, relieve pressure on the formal healthcare system, and also equip helpers with skills to enhance their employability and earning potential.
