Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 6: Rahayu Mahzam on embedding preventive healthcare in the community
Improving the population's health and preventive care is critical for longer and healthier lives, and the government has embedded preventive healthcare in the community, said Minister of State for Health Rahayu Mahzam. Speaking in parliament on Thursday (Mar 5), she said more accessible health services will be rolled out in the north region, as data shows its prevalence of diabetes and hypertension is above the national average, with residents engaging in less physical activity. The government will start off with Woodlands Town. It will enhance the Community Health Posts and improve access to specialist-supported care. It will also support residents in healthy living activities by opening up community spaces for exercise programmes, introducing digital wayfinding in Healthy 365 and empowering local community health advocates. Ms Rahayu stressed that the path to a healthier life is “wide enough for everyone to walk on” to build a Singapore where healthy living is inclusive, accessible and a lived reality.
