Danish PM to meet Greenland counterpart after Trump climbdown
Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will visit Nuuk for talks with her Greenland counterpart, after a turbulent week that saw US President Donald Trump backing down from his threats to seize the island. This comes after Mr Trump agreed to a framework on Greenland with NATO chief Mark Rutte. While Washington has repeatedly cited national security as its main reason for wanting to own Greenland, a 1951 defence agreement between the US and Denmark pretty much allows Mr Trump free military access to the self-ruled Danish territory.
