Debate on President’s Address: Sharael Taha on equal work opportunities for all

15:21 Min

Singapore has made significant progress in ensuring gender equality at work as well as tackling workplace discrimination, although these remain work-in-progress. However, it has not been as successful in providing equal opportunities for seniors, people with disabilities or special needs, caregivers and back-to-work mothers, said MP Sharael Taha in Parliament on Wednesday (Apr 19). He said these groups still face “an uphill task” to find meaningful employment and opportunities to contribute to the economy. Mr Sharael asked how they can be better supported with job redesign and remote or flexible work arrangements, and whether enough is being done to get employers to take up relevant grants and schemes.
