Debate on President’s speech: Louis Chua on collective interests over individual interests

Society requires us to uphold the principle that collective interests take precedence over individual interests, said MP Louis Chua. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Sep 23), he pointed out that unity cannot be built upon inequality. Trust becomes difficult to maintain if people feel left out or forgotten, he said. Mr Chua said Singapore needs not just economic growth, but inclusive growth that ensures that every Singaporean can share in the nation’s future.
