Debate on President’s speech: Sylvia Lim on building a parliament that the people trust
The Workers’ Party will play its part to build a parliament that the people trust, said MP Sylvia Lim. MPs have an overriding duty to Singaporeans and this means questioning the government and holding it to account rigorously if necessary, she said in parliament on Friday (Sep 26). “We are cautiously optimistic that our parliamentary system has potential to do better,” she said. In this term of parliament, she hopes they can build trust in the House. “All of us here are competitors, but not enemies. The people have elected us to act on their behalf to ensure Singapore endures for the long term, to work towards a Singapore built to last. On this Sir, we have common cause,” she said.
