The achievements of Singapore’s para-athletes have shown that sports is not just the domain of the able-bodied, said MP Denise Phua. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 16), she pointed out that the Government’s inclusive sport investment has enabled both mainstream and para-athletes to receive the support they need to succeed on the world stage. She stressed the need to further integrate sports in the curriculum of special schools to encourage children with disabilities to lead healthy and active lives from a young age. More structured options and opportunities are needed, she said. Ms Phua also voiced support for equal cash awards for both able-bodied and para-athletes to send a powerful and progressive message that Singapore is truly inclusive and offers equal opportunities to all.
