Derrick Goh on Community Disputes Resolution (Amendment) Bill
The Community Disputes Resolution (Amendment) Bill represents significant advancements to facilitate faster and more effective dispute resolution in the community, but for it to be effective on the ground, good policy will require good execution, said MP Derrick Goh. He asked about plans to increase the Community Mediation Centre’s capacity in expectation of a heavier workload. This means not just ensuring accessibility and reasonable wait times, but maintaining or even improving the current success rate of 80 per cent. On the impending Community Relations Unit pilot in Tampines, he asked about its metrics for success and whether it can be expanded more quickly if outcomes are good. In that event, he suggested covering selected high-severity cases islandwide instead of in a second town, to broaden learning. Mr Goh spoke in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 12).
