Desmond Choo on Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill
Government assistance packages have helped workers to cope with the rising cost of living, but they cannot be relied on indefinitely, said MP Desmond Choo in Parliament on Monday (Nov 7). He said the lasting solution is to keep wages growing ahead of inflation by driving productivity. Mr Choo urged businesses to rethink their business models to capitalise on technology and called on SMEs in particular to take part in Operation & Technology Roadmap programmes to help them innovate and move up the value chain. Gains must also be shared fairly and equitably, he said. Mr Choo said the labour movement and its social enterprises will continue to ensure that workers and their families have accessible, affordable and quality goods and services.
