Desmond Lee on balloting in Secondary 1 posting exercise
In the 2025 Secondary 1 posting exercise, about one in 10 students underwent computerised balloting. This has been stable over the past few years. The Ministry of Education does not track the number of students who are unsuccessful despite meeting a school’s cut-off point as this can vary widely. Instead, it tracks the percentage of students who are placed in a school among their top six choices. Since 2021, more than eight in 10 were posted to a school within their top three choices and more than nine in 10 to a school within their top six picks. Education Minister Desmond Lee gave these details in parliament on Wednesday (Feb 4) in answer to an MP’s questions.
