Desmond Lee on potential redevelopment of Gillman Barracks
In Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 2), National Development Minister Desmond Lee answered an MP’s questions on the possibility of redeveloping Gillman Barracks for public and private housing. He said masterplanning for the site will take place after detailed environmental and heritage studies have been done. These are to begin in the second quarter of 2024. After the studies are completed, detailed reports will be made available online for the public to provide feedback on the redevelopment plans. Planning for Gillman Barracks will also take into account the findings of an environmental impact study previously done for the redevelopment of the former Keppel Golf Course site and ecological connectivity will be provided for, said Mr Lee. Meanwhile, existing tenancies at Gillman Barracks will progressively expire by 2030 and tenants will be engaged after that on plans for the commercial use of the site.
