Desmond Lee on waiting time for HDB BTO flats

17:09 Min

Since 2018, HDB has been offering some Build-to-Order (BTO) flats with shorter waiting times of three years or less, by bringing forward construction for specific sites that are ready for development. Nearly 11,000 such flats have been offered - 7,200 of them between 2020 and 2022. Supply has been impacted by pandemic-related disruptions as well as higher BTO demand. HDB has ramped up the supply of BTO flats to 23,000 flats a year in 2022 and 2023 - a rise of 35 per cent from 2021. It is also prepared to launch up to 100,000 new flats from 2021 to 2025 if needed. Where possible, it will try to launch more BTO projects with shorter waiting times, subject to site and infrastructure readiness. National Development Minister Desmond Lee said this in Parliament on Thursday (Oct 20) in response to MPs’ questions. He also explained the income cap for renting under the Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme and why it will be retained. *Audio issues inherent from source
