Doctors across India halt elective services indefinitely to protest rape, murder of colleague

Doctors across India have stopped all elective medical services indefinitely, in protest of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in West Bengal's Kolkata city. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association called for the nationwide halt yesterday. Physicians and medical students marched on the streets of New Delhi, while demonstrations in West Bengal have entered the fourth day. The badly bruised body of the woman was found in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College on Aug 9. A civic volunteer has reportedly been arrested in connection with the crime.
