Fadli Fawzi on Singapore Sports Council (Amendment) Bill
Expanding SportSG’s functions to include e-sports and mind sports is a significant undertaking, as these are rapidly growing fields that require specialised infrastructure, coaching and international participation, said MP Fadli Fawzi. He asked if the government plans to increase SportSG’s budget to account for this; otherwise, it risks diluting the financial support available to athletes in traditional sports. Mr Fadli suggested allowing SportSG to enter strategic partnerships with commercial entities to alleviate the burden on the public purse. He spoke in parliament on Tuesday (Jan 13).
