Former Malaysian finance minister Daim Zainuddin dies aged 86
Former Malaysian finance minister Daim Zainuddin has died aged 86. He had been in the ICU over the past few weeks, following a stroke. Mr Daim helped steer Malaysia through recessions and the Asian financial crisis during his two stints as finance minister -- from 1984 to 1991 and 1999 to 2001. He was charged earlier this year with failing to disclose assets under an anti-corruption law, but pleaded not guilty. Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad said he was "indescribably sad" and had lost a friend who fought alongside him. Afifah Ariffin reports.
