The Government and autonomous universities (AUs) have various schemes to facilitate the return of Singaporeans overseas who have been recognised for outstanding research work. These include the National Research Foundation’s Returning Singaporean Scientists Scheme. Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang said this in response to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Thursday (Jul 6). However, she noted that researchers must want to relocate after having established a presence overseas and their interests have to match up with the research priorities of the AU. She pointed out that researchers who prefer to stay overseas do have opportunities to collaborate with local AUs or A*STAR research institutions.
