Gan Siow Huang on use of SkillsFuture Credit
The Government is looking into providing “further substantial” SkillsFuture Credit top-ups for mature mid-career Singaporeans, with more details to be announced later this year. This is because mature workers need more support to reskill and upskill to stay employable, said Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang in Parliament on Wednesday (Jan 10). In response to questions from Members of the House, Ms Gan said since the launch of SkillsFuture, the training participation rate - including employer-sponsored training - has risen from 35 per cent in 2015 to around 50 per cent in 2022. Utilisation of SkillsFuture Credit has been higher among younger people, at close to 40 per cent for those in their 30s and around 25 per cent for those aged 60 and above. Only “a small minority” of Singaporeans have fully expended their SkillsFuture Credit. Ms Gan said that to improve take-up, the SkillsFuture portal and claims submission have been made easier. SkillsFuture Singapore also works with industry partners to keep courses relevant to demand.
