Gan Thiam Poh on Public Utilities (Amendment) Bill

02:58 Min

In Parliament on Thursday (Aug 3), MP Gan Thiam Poh voiced support for the introduction of mandatory water recycling requirements for industries which use huge quantities of water, as well as enhanced legal powers for PUB to ensure Singapore’s water security. He also sought clarifications on the proposed taxes for private water suppliers. He wanted to know if these would adversely impact costs and discourage them from providing services. He also wanted to know the profiles of private water suppliers and if the number has been growing in recent years. Mr Gan asked if the Government has engaged such suppliers on the proposed measures and discussed their concerns. He also asked the Government for its long-term plans for the private water supply sector.
