The Gen Z Rebels

About the show:

Three governments - Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh - collapsed in the last year, marking one of the most turbulent political crises in recent history.

We traverse Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines to meet the Gen Z rebels behind these movements - the first fully digital-native generation, growing up with smartphones, the internet, and social media, to investigate their sense of “grievance”.

They believe that businesses and governments “serve the few.” UNICEF’s 2025 Asia study finds that 6 in 10 Gen Z respondents are at high risk of mental- health issues, citing climate fear and economic stress.

Four very different crises reveal one global pattern: when corruption, anger, and gridlock collide, governments can fall overnight. Are governments prepared for Gen Z's tech savviness, passion for democracy, and willingness to challenge the status quo, using DIY technology to organize and express dissent?
