Singapore must ensure that its tax framework stays predictable and competitive in good economic times, but also agile and flexible for maritime businesses during bad times, said MP Gho Sze Kee. To that end, she proposed harmonising the Net Tonnage Basis of Taxation election criteria across all Maritime Sector Incentives schemes, with a uniform five-year election cycle.
