Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh killed in air strike in Iran

Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in an air strike in the Iranian capital Tehran. His death threatens to deepen the war in Gaza beyond the enclave's borders. Hamas, Iran and their allies have vowed swift retaliation. Iranian state media reported that Haniyeh had been killed in an air strike on a special residence for war veterans in the north of Tehran. He was in Iran for the inauguration of new president Masoud Pezeshkian. Haniyeh has been the face of Hamas' international diplomacy since the Gaza war erupted last October.
