Heng Chee How on Invincible-class submarines to protect Singapore's interests at sea
The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is tasked with the crucial mission of keeping the sea lines open and its submarines are a strategic asset in deterring potential aggressors. Senior Minister of State for Defence Heng Chee How, who highlighted this role in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Wednesday (Aug 2), said all secondhand Challenger-class and Archer-class submarines will be retired soon. They will be replaced by four Invincible-class submarines designed for Singapore’s needs and operational requirements. These will significantly enhance the RSN's capabilities to protect Singapore's interests at sea, he said.
