India overhauls weapons acquisition to boost self-reliance in defence production
India is overhauling how it acquires weapons by making it easier for domestic companies to supply military technology. The move is part of a years-long push by the Modi government for self-reliance in defence production, coming at a time of security tensions with China and Pakistan. India now has over 1,000 defence startups, from just a handful in 2016.
