Indonesia and the European Union have finalised negotiations on a major trade agreement, after at least 19 rounds of talks spanning nearly 10 years. This is the third comprehensive economic partnership agreement Brussels has signed with a Southeast Asian nation, after Singapore and Vietnam. The landmark deal will remove import duties on 98.5% of EU exports to Indonesia. The EU is Indonesia's fifth-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade hitting US$30.1 billion in 2024. With the new agreement, trade between the two is expected to double in the next five years. Chandni Vatvani reports from Bali.
