Indonesia revises mining law to boost development, regulate access
Indonesia's parliament has passed a Bill to revise a law on mining. It hopes to boost the development of domestic mineral processing industries and regulate mining permits for small businesses and religious groups. Indonesia Corruption Watch, an anti-graft watchdog, has raised concerns regarding these revisions from the time they were being planned. This, especially in regard to the expansion of the scope of recipients for mining licences to include religious organisations and universities through affiliated businesses. The ICW has argued that the revisions could be politically motivated and potentially exacerbate corruption. Chandni Vatvani reports.
