Indranee Rajah on income ceilings for HDB and EC flats

07:20 Min

The Government will continue to monitor housing market conditions closely to ensure that public housing remains affordable and accessible. Second Minister for National Development Indranee Rajah gave this assurance in reply to an MP's question in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 29). She said the income ceilings for the purchase of subsidised HDB and executive condominium (EC) flats are reviewed regularly to ensure that public housing remains within the reach of the majority of citizen households and that housing subsidies are given to those who need them most. She said the Government is mindful that lower-income households could be crowded out by an adjustment to the income ceilings, which were last reviewed in 2019. There are no plans to revise the income ceilings at this point, she said. At the current income ceiling of S$14,000, about eight in 10 Singaporeans are eligible to apply for Build-to-Order flats, while the ceiling of S$16,000 enables about nine in 10 Singaporeans to apply for EC units.
