Indranee Rajah wraps up debate on Budget and Committee of Supply 2026
Parliament passed Singapore’s largest annual Budget to date, against the backdrop of a profoundly changed and uncertain world. It is the country’s action plan to enable Singaporeans to navigate the new reality with confidence and secure their future together, said Leader of the House Indranee Rajah. Singapore’s budget surplus is less about marksmanship and a whole lot more about assurance and quiet confidence, she said. Wrapping up the debates on the Budget and Committee of Supply in parliament on Friday (Mar 6), Ms Indranee thanked Members for their support and contributions. She noted that even when there were disagreements, they share a common commitment to building a better Singapore. For this year, there was “robust debate” spanning nine days. Sixty-eight Members spoke for two-and-a-half days in the debate on the Budget Statement, the highest number in recent Budgets, with about 21 hours of debate. Over six days of the debate on the Committee of Supply, 425 cuts were covered, with almost 55 hours of debate. Ms Indranee noted that for the first time, there was no formal break and a new item was used to keep to time - the bell and the mute button.
