In Thailand, abbot Phra Maha Pranom and Chak Daeng Temple have been spearheading a recycling revolution - believers, and even foreigners and companies, send the temple their trash that the monks then recycle into faux wood, fabric (even a beauty pageant gown) and fuel. It started when the monks developed a way to turn plastic bottles into yarn, which was then spun into their robes. The monks believe their recycling efforts will generate ‘merit’ and produce positive outcomes for the Earth that align with Lord Buddha’s teaching.
