Israel threatens 'gates of hell' on Hamas as UN declares famine in Gaza

Israel has vowed to destroy Gaza City, with Defence Minister Israel Katz threatening the "gates of hell" on Hamas if the militant group does not agree to stop fighting on conditions set out by Tel Aviv. Mr Katz said failure to meet these conditions could mean Gaza becoming Rafah and Beit Hanoun — two cities that were razed in previous Israeli military operations. Meanwhile, the UN-backed global hunger monitor has confirmed there is famine in Gaza City and the surrounding northern region. This is the first time famine has been determined in the Middle East.
