Janil Puthucheary on National Wellness Committee for Junior Doctors
The attrition rate of doctors in the public healthcare sector has remained stable in the last three years, ranging from three per cent to five per cent, said Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary. Replying to questions from MPs in Parliament on Monday (Mar 20), he said the Government will continue to improve the well-being of doctors and retain them in public service. One way is through the National Wellness Committee for Junior Doctors. It has been studying initiatives to promote and improve the well-being of junior doctors in the public healthcare system. The committee is conducting in-depth small group discussions with junior and senior doctors on concerns such as career pathways, work hours and work conditions. He said the committee is concluding its engagements with stakeholders and finalising its recommendations. One initiative that is already in place is the appointment of Chief Wellness Officers in the public healthcare clusters to enhance the well-being of all healthcare staff.
