06:45 Min

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said Japan can take on a bigger role in the region, if it is able to put lingering historical issues to rest with other countries. Wrapping up his first official visit to Tokyo, Mr Wong said this could lead to greater cooperation, including on regional security. He added that Singapore's approach is not to be trapped by its past with Japan, but to work with like-minded partners in its national interest. In a wrap-up interview, Mr Wong also said that the Singapore government is monitoring the Middle East conflict closely, and stands ready to roll out additional support measures for households and businesses if needed.
