Japan scrambles jets after Chinese military plane breaches its airspace briefly
Japan said a Chinese military intelligence-gathering plane briefly breached its territory this morning, prompting its defence ministry to scramble fighter jets. The aircraft flew over the uninhabited Danjo Islands in Nagasaki prefecture in southern Japan in the East China Sea. The defence ministry said this is the first time a Chinese military aircraft has violated Japanese airspace. Japan's foreign ministry has summoned the Chinese acting ambassador to Japan to lodge a complaint. China has yet to officially comment on the apparent incursion. Michiyo Ishida reports.
