Jean See on supporting Singaporeans in starting and raising families
In Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 5), NMP Jean See called for a refreshed social compact to help Singaporean breadwinners balance work and caregiving. She highlighted three groups numbering over half a million in total – platform workers, creative freelancers and low-wage workers who face a wave of technological disruption that could upend their livelihoods. Ms See urged protection for platform workers against algorithmic management practices that may force them to choose between work and caregiving. She asked the Government to take the lead in supporting creative freelancers facing job and income losses due to generative AI. She also called on the Government and industry stakeholders to prioritise training of low-wage workers to pivot to new job scopes or career paths if their jobs are likely to be replaced by automation.
