Make e-registering with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) a voluntary step built into immigration and customs processes - this was the suggestion by MP Joan Pereira in Parliament on Monday (Nov 6). Alternatively, she said more reminders could be put up prominently at the airport or border crossings. Ms Pereira was concerned about the safety of Singaporeans who find themselves overseas when conflicts or other crises strike. She said it has not always been easy for MFA to get in touch with every Singaporean who might need assistance as some forget to e-register or think it is unnecessary.
