Lee Hui Ying on Veterinary Practice Bill
The vet industry is still ripe for greater growth, as pet ownership continues to rise and Singaporeans are more sensitive to the care of their furry companions, said MP Lee Hui Ying. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Apr 8), she stressed the need to ensure that the Veterinary Practice Bill has the “claws and teeth” to protect not only the animals and their guardians, but also the professionals who serve and save them. She sought clarifications on the introduction of a specialist register and asked if the proposed three-tiered system is sufficiently robust. She also wanted to know how vets will be protected in the face of potential investigations over animal death.
