Liang Eng Hwa on Retirement and Re-employment (Amendment) Bill and Central Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill
While the Retirement and Re-employment (Amendment) Bill addresses the implications of Singapore's ageing population and increasing life expectancy, it will take some time to eliminate the age barrier in the labour market, said MP Liang Eng Hwa. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 1), he highlighted the need to provide legal protection for older employees to remain in the workforce until their statutory retirement age while ensuring that employers have the flexibility to adjust the nature of their work for older employees. He also sought clarification on the Central Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill and asked if the CPF withdrawal age will remain unchanged given the higher retirement and re-employment age.
