Louis Ng on ACRA (Registry and Regulatory Enhancements) Bill

04:26 Min

The ACRA (Registry and Regulatory Enhancements) Bill will streamline the regulation of corporate entities, said MP Louis Ng. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 2), he sought clarifications on the Bill. One of them relates to the provision of information and documents to third parties. Mr Ng raised concerns that the capabilities in protecting data may vary across different parties. He wanted to know how the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority will ensure that information, especially personal data provided to third parties, will be adequately protected and not be subsequently used by third parties for other purposes, such as marketing or sales. Mr Ng also wanted to know if there are plans to allow Court documents to be served via the digital mailbox. If so, what factors will be considered in determining whether it is appropriate to allow service via the digital mailbox.
