Louis Ng on Immigration (Amendment) Bill

03:29 Min

People whose permanent residency in Singapore has been rejected or revoked can no longer appeal to the minister in charge under changes proposed in a new Bill. They can, however, seek reconsideration from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. MP Louis Ng asked how they should do this and whether a standard form could be provided, which could also make clear what relevant information and documents should be submitted. This would save time and resources on both sides, he said. Mr Ng also asked about the handling of children who can be prevented by immigration officers from leaving or being taken out of Singapore. He said there must be robust standards to ensure the children’s well-being. Mr Ng spoke in Parliament on Monday (Sep 18).
